Who is Foreign Locals?
Foreign Locals is a four-person indie band hailing from Southern Middle Tennessee. The band fuses classic rock, folk, soul, western swing, and pop music with unique covers and dynamic set changes that keep an audience energized and captivated. Formed in 2021, Foreign Locals is the combined talent of singer-songwriter and guitarist Dakota Lawen, multi-instrumentalist Alex Stidham, bassist James Wood, and drummer and percussionist Angela Wood. Though the members come from different walks of life, Foreign Locals consists of music lovers who constantly push each other to exceed expectations and excel in performance. With roots in the Flat Creek community in Bedford County, Tennessee, the group shares a deep appreciation for musical education, collaboration, and most of all, performance.

Dakota Lawen
Dakota is a full time student at the Jim and Inge Wood School of Music. While prominently playing acoustic guitar, Dakota began by learning piano at age thirteen and then moved on to playing ukulele, guitar, bass, and singing. He loves playing classic rock, folk, and pop as well as writing and recording indie folk music.

Alex Stidham
Alex's earliest musical experimentation began as a young child with percussion and piano, but by age eight or nine, he was learning songs on acoustic guitar and never looked back.
He still wields the guitar as his primary instument, but he can often be seen on fiddle or keys as well. When he isn't working or practicing, he can be found playing with a handful of local groups or for his church's worship service.

Angela Wood
Born to two working musicians, Angela grew up immersed in the local fiddle music culture of her native Bedford County, Tennessee, where she started out playing percussion for dances at an early age.
Moving from buckdancing and hand-drums, she started playing drum kit in her mid-teens and loves playing a wide variety of styles from traditional Americana folk and fiddle music to church music to classic country and rock 'n' roll.

James Wood
Having been raised in the same family with Angela, James Wood has grown up in Bedford County, Tennessee in a rich and diverse musical environment.
Frequently playing at multiple churches throughout Middle Tennessee, he has gained a wealth of experience in the praise and worship scene of music, and he has played bass for folk dance groups since an early age creating a highly diverse skill set.
